Gun Man Tragedy On University At Buffalo

Gun Man Tragedy On University At Buffalo 0n Hot Topics -- Gun Man Tragedy On University At Buffalo became hot issue. I think, this is very uncomfortable for the student on University at Buffalo. Lockwood Library on the University at Buffalo's North Campus was evacuated late Tuesday afternoon. UB police responded to a report of a gunman inside the library. At 7:45pm, officers completed their search and no suspicious person was found. UB Police say that there is no threat to the campus.

Tuesday evening classes on the North Campus were canceled.

"The safety of our students, faculty and staff is always our primary concern," said UB Provost Satish Tripathi. "The university's campus alert and emergency response was enacted quickly and appropriately. Police patrols will be increased on the North Campus."

Ken Hood, facilities planning and management officer at UB, was the first to tell WBFO News that a gunman was spotted.

Cops searched Lockwood Library for a man described as white, early 20s, short brown hair but not a brush cut, 5-foot-6 or taller, light facial hair, Navy pea coat, carrying what appeared to be a rifle, according to the university.

"The investigation is continuing, but UB Police were not able to confirm there was a man with a gun on campus," said a message on the university's Web site. "Amherst Police responded to the incident and assisted University Police in a comprehensive search of the library. Buffalo Police patrolled UB's South Campus temporarily while UB Police deployed officers to the North Campus. No suspect or weapon was found."

University officials canceled classes on the North Campus and stepped up police patrols for Tuesday evening.

A campus spokesperson said no one had been hurt and no shots were fired, the AP reported.

The University at Buffalo is the flagship institution of the State University of New York.

Police completed their search of the University at Buffalo's Lockwood Library Tuesday evening and found no sign of a gunman. The building on U-B's North Campus in Amherst was evacuated earlier in the day after reports of a suspicious person, possibly carrying a gun. There were no reports of injuries.

University authorities say the U-B Police Department completed its search of Lockwood Library around 7:45 Tuesday evening and no suspicious person was found. Officials say that there is no threat to the campus.

"No suspicious person was found. Police have determined there is no threat to campus. Classes will resume tomorrow," said Joseph A. Brennan, associate vice president of communications at UB.

The library remained closed Tuesday and U-B Police were made available to escort any student or staff member who may have left belongings in the building.

The library was evacuated and locked down shortly after 4:00 Tuesday afternoon after a surveillance camera image showed what appeared to be a person with a gun in the building.

U-B Police started evacuating the library around 4:30 pm. Amherst Police soon joined in the effort to secure the building and the surrounding area.

Brennan said the North Campus itself was never "locked down" but Tuesday evening activites were canceled at the North Campus only.

Police conducted a room-by-room search of the six-story Lockwood Library. The search took about 4 hours.

Students were notified through text messages and e-mails and warned to stay away from the library during the search.

"The safety of our students, faculty and staff is always our primary concern," said UB Provost Satish Tripathi. "The university's campus alert and emergency response was enacted quickly and appropriately. Police patrols will be increased on the North Campus."

All classes and campus activities will resume normal schedule tomorrow Wednesday morning.

Where Is Donner Party Facts From???

Where Is Donner Party Facts From??? on Television Today -- Where Is Donner Party Facts From??? Is it of you know where is from??? American Experience offers the gripping tale of the Donner Party. High in the high Sierra Nevadas in the winter of 1846, the worst winter ever recorded in the high Sierras, tragedy struck their caravan. Only half of the party would come out alive.

The Donner Party was a group of California-bound American emigrants caught up in the "westering fever" of the 1840s. After becoming snowbound in the Sierra Nevada in the winter of 1846–1847, some of them resorted to cannibalism.

Through family journals, newspaper accounts and interviews with historians and descendants of the party, the film recreates the Donner Party's now legendary journey.

In June of 1846, along with thousand of others, George and Jacob Donner and James Frazier Reed led their families west out of Springfield, Illinois, to the "Promised Land" in California, two thousand miles away. Theirs was a prosperous caravan that would eventually swell to 87 men, women and children. They packed hugh wagons (one, two stories high), took lots of food, hired servants, even sewed $10,000 in bank notes between the covers of a quilt. When family leaders made the fateful decision to take a untried short cut to beat the coming winter, only half of them would come out alive. What began as a trek to the western paradise became a terrifying tale of misery, death, madness and cannibalism. But there was also extraordinary bravery, as survivors made their way to California, after enduring the worst winter ever recorded in the High Sierras. Through family journals, newspaper accounts and interviews with historians and descendants of the party, the film recreates the Donner Party's now legendary journey.
